Detroit Swindle - B.Y.O // Okay sorry, I’ve been a bit slow on the new releases again but don’t worry - I’ve got some very good words about some banging house and future garage records for you over the next few days. Let’s start with the debut album from dutch deep house stalwarts Detroit SwindleBoxed Out is 10 tracks of ridiculously good summer house, ranging from a dreamy disco vibe on You, Me, Here, Now to punchy dance floor tunes like Thoughts of She and Shotgun. I would say that the album gets progressively less radio-friendly as it goes along, culminating in He’s Just This Guy, You Know which is hard and dark and perfectly engineered to take you on a little journey in your own head and bring a big smile to your (potentially wasted) face.

This is already the third release for our little baby S P I E L and as we are on a constant search for the more leftfield and not so Deep House esque Dance Music it was a very happy surprise to find an amazing demo in our mail box by the Swiss Indie Dance/ Electronic duo Mercury. The Bern based act already made a name for themselves by releasing on the great Gomma label and by doing remix work and collaborations with people like Robert Owens, Byron Stingily, Tom Trago, Munk and Two Door Cinema Club.

These three new tracks are a well crafted mix of Electro, Disco, House and Deep Techno. The A side „In & Out“ is an irresistable dance floor monster build around a very cool vocal sample, the dark and cold electro feel of this track combined with the warm soulful vocal makes this a very special House tune.

On the B side Mercury picks up the tempo and shows us their more Techy side on the bouncing „The Session“. The haunting vocals and sharp techno beats make this a real banger of a track. To close it off the slower and darker „Hommage“ gives tribute to the 808, 303 and 909 machines… in a true Detroit Electro kind of way.

Detroit Swindle - Boxed Out

The debut album of Detroit Swindle. Do we have to say moarrr?

Ever since ‘The Wrap Around’ dropped in 2012, Detroit Swindle have been on a serious upward trajectory.

That tune, released on the EP of the same name via Huxley’s Saints & Sonnets, was a mission statement for the Amsterdam duo’s insatiable style of house music; all big, flabby basslines and struttin’ percussion laced with the essence of a fucking good time.
